The Liège team, composed of Perrine Devillers, Thibaud Jourdan and Lola Lippert, won the 41st edition of the prestigious international humanitarian law competition. A first for ULiège, after 18 participations!
The Jean-Pictet competition brings together each year universities from all over the world. It allows students to test and deepen their knowledge of international humanitarian law by getting them to "take the law out of the books" through simulations and role playing. These take place during the final phase of the competition: an intense week in which only the teams that have passed the preliminary selection stage on the basis of a file can participate.
At the end of 2022, the Liège team was selected for the final phase of the competition, which took place in Forges-les-Eaux, France, from March 11 to 18, 2023, and pitted 22 teams against each other.
During the competition, the ULiège team successively qualified for the semi-final and the grand final, which it finally won against the University of Korhogo (Ivory Coast).
Within the Faculty of Law, Political Science and Criminology, the participation of students in the Jean-Pictet Competition is valued as a final work of study. It involves an intensive preparation and coaching phase coordinated by Mrs. Louna Monaco and Prof. Christophe Deprez, with the active participation of many other colleagues of the Faculty.
The participation of our students in this competition, as well as in other that the Faculty of Law, Political Science and Criminology promotes, is made possible by the financial support of the David-Constant Fund and Wallonie-Bruxelles International.
This is a first victory for ULiège, at the end of the 18th participation. Former students who participated in previous editions of this competition have subsequently joined institutions and organizations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the Belgian Red Cross, the Defense Department, the International Crisis Group, the FPS Justice, the Judiciary or the FPS Foreign Affairs.
This recognition testifies to the excellence of the program, both in terms of content and teaching methods.
She was awarded the prize for her thesis on the comprehensive and socio-cognitive analysis of the experiences of women who are victims of control strategies and violent actions by a (former) dominant spouse.
The result of a collaboration between HEC Liège - School of Management and the Faculty of Law, Political Science and Criminology, this program aims to acquire skills in international business operations at the global level.
